The Sundance Resort was founded by actor Robert Redford, who in 1969 purchased a small ski area and thousands of acres of surrounding wilderness to develop a sustainable community for the arts and a vast wilderness preserve. Structures were built with ecologically sound construction methods and materials, and the ethos is one of respect for the fragile mountain environment.
